We protect nature for people.
Conservation International protects nature for the benefit of humanity. Through science, policy, fieldwork, and finance, we spotlight and secure the most important places in nature for the climate, biodiversity, and for people. With offices in 30 countries and projects in more than 100 countries, we partner with companies, civil society, Indigenous peoples, and local communities to help people and nature thrive together.
Since 1987, Conservation International has helped protect 13 million square kilometers of land and sea — an area the size of the United States and Mexico combined.
Our marine conservation work spans all five of the planet's oceans. Our land-based projects are focused on the tropics, home to the most biodiverse places on Earth and critical stores of carbon.
We value local expertise: Ninety-seven percent of our program staff come from the regions where they work. This helps us work more effectively, as local staff are better able to navigate unique social, cultural and political contexts.
Our Global Priorities

Climate
We work with nature to remove planet-warming carbon from the atmosphere — and help communities thrive in a changing world.

Oceans
We help create marine protected areas — and reimagine aquatic industries — to secure the ocean’s bounties for future generations.

Biodiversity
We protect and restore priceless ecosystems, while creating jobs and opportunity for all.
